The House 9 Hockey Foundation was established in 2008 as a not-for-profit organization with the goal of making the game of hockey more accessible to children, regardless of their financial circumstances. It pursues this mission by providing equipment and/or paying registration fees so that grant-eligible children can participate in minor hockey.
A founding director of the Foundation is Aaron Downey, a native of Dufferin County, Ontario who played his minor hockey in local arenas and was a member of 4 of the 'Original 6' NHL teams including the 2008 Stanley Cup-winning Detroit Red Wings. Each year since the summer of 2008, Aaron along with friends and former teammates Kyle Quincey and Jamie Tardif invite friends in the NHL and their affiliate teams to come volunteer for a good cause by playing for the Foundation's “House 9 Stars” team in our annual charity hockey games.
Operated by volunteers, the Foundation’s principal annual fund-raising event consists of a day that features live music entertainment, barbecue, and a charity hockey game between the 'House 9 Stars' and an area hockey team consisting of a mix of their current and alumni players.
Funds are raised through private and corporate donations and sponsorships involving dozens of local organizations. Through these efforts, strengthened by assistance provided by the NHL Players Association, the Foundation is enabling children to enroll and participate in minor hockey.
Please feel free to help sponsor kids by donating through our Support H9 Hockey link.
Thank you for your support.
